MUNTHE ART MONDAY: ALINE GAIAD

Please introduce yourself and tell us about what you do.
My name is Aline Gaiad, I am a painter living in West London, England, where I work from my home studio. I was raised in Rio de Janeiro (“carioca da gema”) into a family of artists and collectors. My approach to art is extremely intuitive and raw. I create from my day to day life my own version of reality, my own dimensions, my own colour, texture and patterns. As Pablo Picasso once stated: “I paint objects as I think of them, not as I see them”.
Could you explain more about how being a woman has affected your career?
I have never experienced any direct effect resulting from gender differences, in fact I've been warmly welcomed and supported by both female and male artists.
Can you name some other female (artist) that inspires you and explain why they do so?
I love Thai Mainhard. She became a great reference for being so honest to art, so raw and making the most beautiful and bold artwork. Alongside with Thai I truly admire Florence Hutchings, Neifa Cosenza and many more. It’s delightful to see many female artists being so successful!
What has been the most challenging aspect of being a female artist?
The aspect of being a woman artist is actually a beautiful advantage in my opinion. We are so creative, passionate, so deep in our emotions and we can easily deliver this in any form of art. My focus has always been on the bright and beautiful side of female potential.
What would you like people to notice in your artwork?
The simplest but the purest answer: I would love them to enjoy my art. Enjoy as many aspects as they can from my paintings: textures, colours, shapes, scales, movements, direction and being intricate by it. That’s my desire, to bring happiness and life through my work.
